①Visa for "Japanese National"  to bring their family from abroad

・Applicable person of "Spouse or Child of Japanese National" visa: Foreign spouses, special adopters, and those born as Japanese children (not necessarily supported)

If you stay with this visa, there is no restriction on activities in Japan, so you can work or go to school as well as Japanese.

Visa for "Permanent Resident" visa holder to bring their family from abroad

・Applicable person of "Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident" visa: The spouse of a permanent resident / special permanent resident, and a child born in Japan and continuing to stay.

・Applicable person of "Long Term Resident" visa: Person who is underage and unmarried children and adopted children under 6 years old of permanent residents and special permanent residents born abroad, and is receiving support for people living in Japan.

If you stay with this visa, there is no restriction on activities in Japan, so you can work or go to school as well as Japanese.

③Visa for "Long Term Resident" visa holder who have been given a period of residence of one year or more to bring their family from abroad

・Applicable person of "Long Term Resident" visa: Spouse of "Long Term Resident"  who have been given a period of residence of one year or more ,  underage and unmarried children, or adopted children under 6 years of age receiving support.

If you stay with this visa, there is no restriction on activities in Japan, so you can work or go to school as well as Japanese.

④Visa for "Professor", "Artist", "Religious Activities", "Journalist", "High Skilled Professional", Business Manager", Legal/Accounting Services", "Medical Service", Researcher", "Instructor", Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services", "Intra-company Transferee", Nursing Care", "Entertainer", "Skilled Labor", "Cultural Activities" or "Student" visa holder to bring their family from abroad 

・Applicable person of "Dependent" visa: Spouses or children supported by foreign residents

If you stay with this visa, you can only do daily activities. If you want to work part-time, you need "PERMISSION TO ENGAGE IN ACTIVITY OTHER THAN THAT PERMITTED UNDER THE STATUS OF RESIDENCE PREVIOUSLY GRANTED".

Spouses who live with high skilled professional foreigners can perform activities that fall under "Researcher", "Instructor", "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" etc. by acquiring a visa for "Designated Activities". 

Visa to bring their Parents from abroad

・"Temporary Visitor": It is possible to stay for a period of 90 days, 30 days or 15 days.

・"Designated Activities": High skilled professional foreigners can bring  their own or spouse's parents if certain conditions are met.

If there are special circumstances (aging, sickness, etc.) that require living together with parents (including parents of spouses), and there are no other close relatives who support or care for parents, your residence may be permitted. 

⑥Visa to bring other brothers, sisters and relatives from abroad

・There are no special visas, so you will have to visit with "Temporary Visitor" visa, or you will get a activity or status visa on their  own.

ACQUISITION STATUS OF RESIDENCE

・Even if your visa is  "Permanent Resident", "Long Term Resident", fixed resident" or "Special Permanent Resident", If you leave Japan for more than one year (more than two years for special permanent residents) without obtaining a re-entry permit, your visa will be cancelled. When you leave Japan for a long time, you need a re-entry permit. The re-entry permit is valid for up to 5 years ( up to 6 years for special permanent residents).

(※1)For "Student" or "Dependent" visa, it is possible to work part-time within 28 hours a week if they receive an "Permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted".

For "Student" visa, you can work up to 8 hours a day during long school holidays.

 

(※2)For "Technical Intern Training" ,  "Trainee" or  "Temporary Visitor" visa, no "Permission to engage in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence previously granted" is given.

Therefore, you can not work in Japan with a “Trainee” or “Temporary Visitor” visa.
